What Do You Think - Is Chivalry Outdated?

Is chivalry outdated? read more at prestovirtuals.ca
Chivalry is the traditional code of conduct associated with the medieval institution of knighthood, but nowadays, it is commonly associated with men holding doors open for women, paying for their expenses on dates and protecting them, generally, from harm.  Those who think chivalry is outdated say it is a benevolent form of sexism that does a disservice to women and men. Chivalry's supporters argue that it carries no disrespect or condescension to anyone; rather, it represents time-honored values such as service, compassion and courtesy.

Is Too Much Confidence A Bad Thing?

Picture

They say that self-confidence helps motivate us to move forward in life, take on challenges and, ultimately, succeed.  But how often are we warned about having too much self-confidence?  Some experts believe over confidence can lead to unwillingness to see the world through others' eyes, a lack of empathy an not being able to recognize our own faults and errors.

Are Canadians paying too much in taxes?

Picture
A recent study from the Fraser Institute says 42.1 per cent of the average Canadian's income is spent on taxes and 36.6 per cent on basic necessities, including food, clothing and shelter.  Some say far too much is going for taxes and that we are not even getting better services or programs for our tax dollars. Others argue that we enjoy a good quality of life because the taxes are put toward health care, education and other important programs.

Should we eliminate score-keeping from youth sports?

Picture
Last year, many Canadian soccer associations stopped keeping score in youth matches. Some people want score-keeping eliminated from all youth sports. They say that tracking wins and losses does not build character in young players and can discourage youngsters from participating in sports. Critics argue that score-keeping enhances kids' enjoyment of the game and can actually encourage ethical conduct.  What do you think?
